Biden’s son aims to push Donald Trump aside in crypto market with his own token

Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, has decided to enter the crypto market by launching his own memecoin under the ticker $LAPTOP as a rival to the digital projects of incumbent president Donald Trump. The initiative was first reported by The Wall Street Journal and later confirmed by Biden Jr. himself, who announced the token’s trading start date, September 9, in a post on X. The announcement was accompanied by archival TV clips and critical remarks from Republican figures and Trump’s administration about the scandal surrounding the “forgotten” laptop.

The token’s name refers to the personal laptop Hunter Biden left at a repair shop in April 2019, which was seized by the FBI several months later. The hard drive reportedly contained confidential business correspondence, financial records, and personal materials that became the basis for years of political attacks ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Biden publicly acknowledged long‑standing struggles with an addiction, recounting how his father once personally drove to pick him up from a drug den accompanied by Secret Service agents.

The launch of $LAPTOP is positioned as a direct response to Trump’s commercial initiatives: prior to his return to the White House in early 2025, Trump unveiled his own coin, OFFICIAL TRUMP. Despite a stunning first‑day rally — from $7 to $34.50 per unit — Trump’s token later suffered a massive sell-off: by early July, its price had collapsed to $1.76, inflicting financial losses on roughly one million retail holders.
